Outdoor tournament held in 'perfect setting' as part of Edmonton minor hockey week

You couldn't beat the weather and the locale for an event like this.
A pond hockey tournament for players in the under-9 age category at Cattail Crossing Golf Club in west Edmonton was "the perfect setting" for the outdoor extravaganza, said Kylee Quinn, Hockey Edmonton's marketing and communications director.
"(It was) bringing back the nostalgia of the essence of hockey," Quinn told CTV News Edmonton on Sunday, the final day of the two-day tourney that's part of the 61st annual Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week.
Afternoon temperatures hovered around the freezing mark.
Players took part in games using traditional pond hockey rules on the 20 rinks created amid the landscape of the golf course.
Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week started Friday and is slated to run through next weekend. More than 10,000 players on 688 teams from the under-9 to under-18 age categories are expected to hit 39 sheets of ice at 24 arenas around Edmonton.
By the time it's over next Sunday, 914 games and 63 championship matches will have been played.
