Edmonton police have issued a public warning about a man in his 50s, set to be released from a regional psychiatric centre after completing his sentence.
Police said Bruce Windsor, 51, will be released from an area psychiatric facility this week after finishing a two-year sentence for a number of charges, including possession of and print and publish child pornography.
Windsor is described as:
- 180 cm (5’11”)
- 95 kg (210 lbs)
- Blue eyes
- Gray hair
Police said Windsor is planning to live in Edmonton.
Windsor is considered a violent sexual offender, who poses a risk of significant harm to the community – his photo and identity are being released in the belief that it’s in the public’s interest to inform the community.
However, police said the intent of the release is to enable residents to take precautions, and is not meant to encourage vigilante action of any kind.
This isn’t the first time Windsor has been the subject of such a warning, back in 2010, police issued a public warning over his release on similar convictions.
On Tuesday, a number of school children under both of Edmonton’s school boards issuing notices of their own related to his release.
“What we’ll do tomorrow [Tuesday] is craft a message for our schools to post on their websites and their School Zone pages,” Jane Sterling with Edmonton Public Schools said. “Just to make people aware that this individual is back in the community.”
“Anytime there is any sort of threat to our students we take that extremely seriously,” Lori Nagy, with Edmonton Catholic Schools said. “The way that we will respond is to make sure that a letter goes out with students tomorrow.”
Edmonton police said Windsor will be monitored by the EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit.
