Edmonton schools are preparing for questions that students may have about their safety following the shooting at a school in Connecticut.
A spokesperson from Edmonton Catholic schools told CTV News that answers will be delivered with empathy and honesty.
“It depends on the age level but we really have to be honest with our children that there isn't an answer, we don't know why this person did this and just answer their questions as they come,” Lori Nagy said.
“We need to make sure students know they are safe when they are on school property,” she added.
Nagy said safety measures have evolved over the years and schools have crisis response plans in place.
“The majority of our schools have all doors locked during the day. This is a direction of course that we’ve had to take over the years.”
