The man killed Sunday in the city's latest homicide was once wanted on second-degree murder charges for two different shooting deaths more than three years ago, CTV News has learned.

Police reports show Terence Miller was initially charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 21-year-old Ikeche Bates. Miller was 20-years-old at the time of the May 2003 shooting.

Bates was shot to death in the Clairview neighbourhood after he approached a red car with two men inside.

Miller was eventually charged with second-degree murder and accessory after the fact.

Both charges were later stayed.

Three years after the Bates shooting, Miller was wanted again for second-degree murder.

Miller was accused of killing 18-year-old Brandon Fern, who died after he was shot and stabbed to death in a parking lot in the Abbottsfield area in June 2005.

The second-degree murder charge was later stayed.

Violent death

Miller, 26, died from multiple gunshot wounds over the weekend after he was allegedly shot to death shortly after attending a party at a downtown hall.

Homicide detectives were called to the Canadian Native Friendship Centre at 112 Avenue and 101 Street around 4:45 a.m. after several people called to say they heard six shots being fired in the area.

An after-hours party was allegedly happening at the centre when the shots were heard.

Shortly after going to the scene, police say they got a call from the Royal Alexandra Hospital about a man who was just brought in with critical gunshot injuries.

Police say the shooting is not believed to be gang-related.

No suspects are in custody.
