A suspect who was fatally shot during a home invasion early Tuesday has been identified as 23-year-old Omar Terrence Albert.

Edmonton police continue to investigate the incident, which started as a break and enter call at a home in the McConachie neighborhood on the city's northside.

Investigators found the husband and wife — who were at home at the time of the break in — tied up, blindfolded and beaten, after the suspects demanded drugs and money.

The husband remained in hospital Wednesday for treatment of his injuries.

Albert, one of three suspects, was found in the basement suffering from a gunshot wound. He died in the hospital later Tuesday morning.

Detectives believe the three suspects — including Albert — targeted the wrong home. A house next door, which is known to police, is being investigated.

Homicide detectives continue to search for two suspects, both males in their 20s.

The first suspect is described as:

  • Black male
  • About 177.5 cm (5’10”) and 183 cm (6’) tall
  • Early to mid-20s
  • Clean-shaven
  • Slim build

The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and darker jeans, and dark gloves. The suspect was also wearing dark, round, thick-rimmed eyeglasses.

The second suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • About 177.5 cm (5’10”) and 180 cm (5’11”) tall
  • Late 20s
  • Stocky or heavier build
  • Short beard

The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and sweat pants.

Both suspects were reportedly speaking with an accent, or in broken English.
