RCMP west of Edmonton are trying to track down a suspect, following reports of an armed male suspect in the area of a local school.
Spruce Grove RCMP said officers were called to the area around Greystone School after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The school was put on lockdown as a precaution, and officers combed the area to find the suspect.
The RCMP helicopter was also called to help with the search.
So far, police said they were not able to find the suspect – no one was threatened or hurt in the incident.
“Students were safe, we don’t believe anyone was threatened or the individual pointed the gun at anyone that has been reported to us,” Cpl. Kim Mueller with Stony Plain RCMP said.
The suspect is described as: having short brown hair, wearing a black hooded jacket, gray sweatpants and black and white runners.
Anyone with information that could help RCMP is asked to call the Stony Plain detachment at 780-968-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
