Submachine gun, $460,000 in drugs seized from Edmonton home

More than 70 charges have been laid after nearly two kilograms of drugs and a submachine gun were found at a central Edmonton home.

Edmonton police said the drugs and multiple guns were found at a home near 103 Street and 107 Avenue on Jan. 2.

More than 1.7 kilograms of fentanyl and 200 grams of cocaine were seized, with estimated street values of $445,000 and $15,000.

"In addition to illicit drugs, we were able to successfully seize multiple firearms, preventing them from being used in future gun crimes on the streets of Edmonton," said Edmonton Police Service Cst. Scott Babin.

A submachine gun, a shotgun, two rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were seized, as well as two Tasers.

Police said they also found evidence of drug production, including cash, 12 Canadian passports and items capable of producing fake IDs.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the home and is facing a total of 73 charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of identity documents and drug production.
