Two people are in custody after police performed a high-risk takedown in downtown Edmonton Wednesday morning.
Police were alerted that two people were fleeing to the downtown area around 12:30 a.m. after two alleged armed robberies just after midnight.
Investigators said the Waysave Family Foods in the north end and the Hampton Inn and Suites hotel in west Edmonton were both held up at knifepoint.
In both instances, police said a man demanded money from a staff member while a woman looked on. About $300 was taken from the hotel. No money was stolen from the grocery store.
Sgt. Terry Langley said police used three cop cars to stop the fleeing vehicle around 105 Street and Jasper Avenue.
"Some police members noted a vehicle matching the description used in both incidents, by that time we had some tactical resources they moved into place and did a vehicle box in," he said.
Arthur Hobbs, 39 was charged with multiple counts of robbery, possession of a weapon, dangerous driving, evading police and driving while suspended.
Melissa Delong, 26 was charged with multiple counts of robbery, possession of a weapon, evading police and driving while suspended.
