One of the three women who died following a two-vehicle collision near Ponoka was on her way home from a camping trip, her mother told CTV News.
RCMP said they were called to the scene around 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the QEII south of Highway 53.
Sgt. Scarrott said that the two women in the silver Toyota SUV along with another women from the pickup truck were pronounced deceased at the scene.
One of the victims has been identified as Mercedes Dizon.
Her mother, Celina, said Mercedes and her friend were on their way home from a camping trip.
Long-time friend, Chris Stoochnoff said he considered her like a sister.
“Somebody that I could actually talk to about anything.”
A man from the pickup truck was taken to Ponoka hospital and then transferred to Red Deer hospital. He was listed in stable condition.
Police have not identified any of the victims but RCMP confirmed both vehicles were from Alberta.
