Early Wednesday morning RCMP and environmental emergency crews responded to a diesel spill just south of Mount Robson Provincial Park.
The Ministry of Environment has confirmed that a fuel truck carrying 50,000 litres of diesel fuel lost control and ended up on its side on Highway 16.
Over 20,000 litres of fuel spilled onto the highway and a light sheen has been reported on the Fraser River below the incident. The leak has been controlled but it’s not clear how much fuel entered the river.
The truck is reportedly owned by Federated Co-operatives Limited in Edmonton. The Ministry of Environment Emergency Response Officers are on site working with the company to clean up the spill.
