A hazmat team was called in after a public transit bus caught on fire in north Edmonton Saturday afternoon.

According to officials experts were called in to help prevent contaminants from leaking from the ETS vehicle.

“There was a lot of water coming off when we were fighting the fire that looked like it may have been contaminated so we called for hazmat to give us a hand cleaning up the mess,” senior firefighter Ryan Busenius explained.

Busenius said fire crews found the bus fully involved when they arrived but were able to get things under control quickly.

“Our first concern was making sure all the occupants were off the bus and safe.”

There were no injuries reported.
