A man in his 40s was arrested in Whitecourt Wednesday morning, after a standoff with police ended with the suspect falling asleep.
RCMP said the incident started after 1 a.m. Wednesday. According to police, the suspect had allegedly been drinking alcohol, and had threatened to harm anyone who entered a Whitecourt home.
It was determined the man had been conflicting with a relative who wasn’t at the home, and RCMP found three other adults and a child were inside the home.
Police cordoned off the home for several hours.
Finally, the situation was resolved at about 8:15 a.m. when one of the people in the home left, and told police the suspect had fallen asleep.
RCMP were able to go into the home and the 41-year-old man was arrested without incident.
Nobody was hurt, and charges are pending – police are still investigating.
