Police are investigating, after RCMP officers in Viking, Alberta, after a young woman was found dead in the snow over the weekend.

Viking RCMP officers were called to the alley of a home in the town at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday – after the body of a young woman was found lying in the snow.

Police said the woman was not wearing winter clothing when she was found, and she had earlier been at a wedding reception near where she was found.

Friends of the deceased identified the deceased high school student as Katelynn Berrecloth.

CTV News has learned Berrecloth went to school in Sedgewick – where school officials are working to help grieving students.

“It’s a very difficult situation,” Diane Hutchinson with the local school board said. “Many high school students have stayed home today.

“We have had as many as eight grief and guidance counselors on hand at different points over the day.”

Members from the Edmonton RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating the death, and an autopsy date has yet to be set.
