Officials with the Alberta Law Enforcement Resposne Team (ALERT) said Tuesday that members of a gang with alleged connections to Mexican drug trafficking had been taken into custody.
ALERT said Tuesday that members of the La Familia gang, which has alleged ties to Mexican drug cartels and the Mara Salvatrucha gang, had been arrested in Edmonton following an ALERT investigation.
It’s alleged the group was trying to gain control of drug distribution channels in Alberta.
Few details were available initially, ALERT said more would be released in a news conference slated for Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
