Edmonton police are investigating after human remains found in early April in Innisfail were identified as an Edmonton man, who was first reported missing in late May, 2015.

On April 5, 2016, bones were found in a wooded area just outside of Innisfail – RCMP later determined they were human remains.

Working with the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office, RCMP said the bones were identified as the remains of Dwayne Demkiw, 42, an Edmonton man who was reported missing to EPS on May 31, 2015.

Demkiw was last seen leaving the area of 149 Street and 128 Avenue at about 4 a.m. on May 31, and was reported missing later in the day.

His vehicle was found in southeast Calgary by Calgary Police at about 11 a.m. on May 31.

The EPS Homicide Unit took over the investigation into Demkiw’s disappearance in early July, 2015.
