A 24-year-old woman told CTV News she was injured in an alleged attack at the Pembina River Provincial Park in central Alberta Sunday night.

A graphic picture posted on social media had been shared more than 2,500 times - the woman’s sister shared the post in an effort to locate witnesses.

According to the post, the woman was struck in the face by a broken bottle while also being kicked and punched after falling to the ground.

RCMP confirm there was an altercation between two groups in the park, and that a 24-year-old woman was injured.

According to police there may have been two separate incidences - a fight broke out between the two groups while tubing on the river, then later at the park, it got more serious.

“We can’t condone drinking while going down the river as a safe practice because it is not and sometimes those decisions become poorer the more alcohol that is consumed – and I believe alcohol was a factor in this particular case,” said RCMP spokesperson Marlene Brown.

RCMP said charges are pending against one male and one female.

The investigation continues.

Pembina River Provincial Park is located between the towns of Entwistle and Evansburg.
