One week after the north Edmonton neighbourhood of Lago Lindo was rocked by a deadly blast community members are reaching out to those who have lost their homes.

Up to a dozen homes will have to be demolished after a home located on 180A Avenue and 91A Street exploded last Sunday. The blast was so powerful it shifted homes of their foundations.

On Sunday a barbecue was held outside the Namao Save-On-Foods to collect donations of clothing, furniture and cash for families who'll have to rebuild.

"We all have to stick together and do what we have to, to help these people out," said Janine Doblanko.

The president of the Lago Lindo Community League says the devastating blast has brought the tight-knit community even closer together.

"It has been a close-knit community from the start, but with everything that has been going on and everything that has happened it's even…better," said community league President Raffaele Guido.

Donations will be tallied on Tuesday, taking into account money collected from local schools that are also taking part in the fundraising effort.

On Friday the friends of Brad Winter and Craig Huber, two of the victims of the blast, held fundraiser at Zocca's Pizzeria and Pub to help the victims families.  Organizers say more than $15,000 was raised.
