Josh Classen's forecast: Cool spell lasts until the weekend
Cool air has settled in over the province and it'll be here for a few more days.
Most of central and northern Alberta woke up to temperatures in the -5 C to -10 C range this morning and we'll get two more mornings with similar temperatures.
Frost certainly isn't unusual in mid-April. But...the average low for Edmonton at this time of year is around 0 C, so we're well below average.
You can say the same thing about the afternoon temperatures. It's not "rare" to get a mid-April cool spell, but we're a long ways off the average high of 11 C.
Temperatures will top out around 2 or 3 C this afternoon and around 5 C Friday afternoon.
Afternoon temperatures wil be back in the 10-15 C range Saturday/Sunday.
Sunny and relatively calm conditions in the Edmonton area this morning will give way to some clouds and wind for this afternoon.
I don't think we'll be completely overcast OR as gusty as the past few days, but we'll some increasing cloudcover and gusts near 30km/h.
Back to sunny skies Friday with light wind.
Long-range outlook: Warm air settles in for next week with daytime highs in the mid to upper teens and morning lows above 0 C.
We're in a fairly dry pattern as well with no significant moisture in the next five to seven days.
Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area:
Today - Mainly sunny & light wind this morning. Increasing cloud this afternoon with gusts near 30km/h.
High: 2
Tonight - Mostly cloudy.
9pm: -1
Friday - Mainly sunny. Light wind.
Morning Low: -7
Afternoon High: 5
Saturday - Mainly sunny.
Morning Low: -6
Afternoon High: 11

The American paradox of protest: Celebrated and condemned, welcomed and muzzled
Americans cherish the right to assemble, to speak out, to petition for the redress of grievances. It's enshrined in the first of the constitutional amendments. They laud social actions of the past and recognize the advances toward equality that previous generations made, often at risk of life and limb. But those same activities can produce anger and outright opposition when life's routines are interrupted, and wariness that those speaking out are outsiders looking to sow chaos and influence impressionable minds.
