A 52-year-old Edmonton man was killed in a skydiving competition in Westlock Saturday afternoon.

RCMP responded to a report of a skydiving accident at the Edmonton Skydiving Centre in the Westlock airport at around 2 p.m.

The accident happened when the skydiver was performing a “high performance technique” and did not land properly, police said.

Emergency personnel were readily available at the competition, but the man was pronounced dead on scene.

RCMP said next of kin have been notified, and the man’s name will not be released.

Westlock is located about 90 kilometres north of Edmonton.
