An Edmonton man is $1 million richer after checking his lottery ticket more than a month after he bought it.
Monte Gowda bought a $6 Lotto Max ticket at a kiosk in Superstore on Kingsway Avenue on Nov. 2.
Gowda didn’t discover he had won until more than a month later, when he turned to the same kiosk to check a few of his tickets and one revealed he had won the $1 million Maxmillions prize.
“I couldn’t believe it when she told me,” Monte said, in a news release.
“Suddenly, the other people in the store were hugging me.”
Gowda says he's going to invest the majority of his win, but plans on using a portion of it for a trip.
His win is the latest in a lucky streak for Albertans.
A group of 15 Edson-area rig workers split a $25M lottery cheque on the Nov. 2 Lotto Max prize.
A lottery ticket worth nearly $46 million was also bought in Alberta in November.
