Edmonton police are warning the public to be cautious after a series of frauds in the Beverly area.

Officials have charged Melissa Weatherbee, 30, with 12 crimes including fraud and forged documents but she has not been located by police.

Authorities believe that Weatherbee has been targeting elderly residents at their homes with a “hard-luck” story.

They said she often claims she has locked herself out of her home and needs to call a locksmith but does not have enough money for the call.

She has also been accused of asking for money to pay a tow truck to get her vehicle.

After she befriends the victims, Weatherbee allegedly attempts to get more money by using stolen cheques.

Weatherbee has been described as having a thin build, brown hair and light-coloured skin.

Police are asking other complainants or those with information on Weatherbee’s whereabouts to contact them, 780-423-4567, #377 from a mobile phone or Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477.
