Major changes are coming to Edmonton’s City Centre Mall, as officials announced plans Tuesday to spend millions to upgrade the mall.

Officials said construction on the $41.3 million revitalization project would include relocating and upgrading the food court.

The work will see the new food court moved top level of the mall – the two existing food courts on the lower levels will be closed and that space repurposed.

In a press release, officials said the new food court space and there will be upgrades to ‘vertical transportation’, with the addition of a new central staircase to the food court, and upgrades to escalators and elevators.

The new food court is expected to open in November 2016, with the entire revitalization work completed by November the following year.

Upgrades to the mall are expected to cost $41.2 million.
