A couple from Fort Saskatchewan has won the $22 million Lotto Max jackpot.

Lawayne Musslewhite and his common-law wife Marrilyn Hodgkinson appeared publicly for the first time since winning the November 12th draw worth about $22.3 million.

Lawayne purchased his six tickets the day of the draw at a Sobeys located at 10004-99 Avenue in Fort Saskatchewan. Three of the tickets were Quick Pick and the remainder of the tickets included numbers he selected.

Lawayne had originally gone to the store to pick up a jar of pickles when he decided to buy some lottery tickets.

Later that night that Lawayne checked his tickets at home on the Internet and thought he only had six out of the seven numbers.

"I screamed for Marrilyn – she looked and said, ‘No, you've got all seven!"

The winning ticket happened to be one of Lawayne's self-selected tickets.

Lawayne retired a few years ago and opened up a stamps and coin shop in Edmonton, which he plans to keep. And thanks to their new winnings, Marrilyn says she will now be able to retire.

The couple plans to help out family and buy a new home in Fort Saskatchewan.

Marrilyn insists one of her first purchases will include a dishwasher, which she has never previously owned.

This win marks the sixth Lotto Max jackpot to be won in the Prairies since the game launched in September of last year.

In September, a young couple from Edmonton won the $10 million Lotto Max jackpot.

The winning ticket for the Aug. 27th Lotto Max draw was purchased in Edmonton at a 7-Eleven on Kirkness Road.
