The provincial government has put a fleet of four airplanes up for sale – making good on a promise made by Premier Jim Prentice shortly after he was sworn-in.
The four airplanes are valued at a total of $11 million: two 2006 Beechcraft King Air B200 valued at $2 million each, one 1997 Beechcraft King Air 350 valued at $1.5 million and a 1985 DeHavilland Dash 8 valued at $5.5 million.
Premier Prentice announced the aircraft would be sold in mid-September, saying 27 employees would be affected by the decision.
The decision came in the wake of a damning Auditor General report that showed how Prentice’s predecessor, former premier Alison Redford, abused her power, and misused the planes wasting taxpayer dollars in the process.
According to the province, the planes cost nearly $10 million annually to run.
The four planes are posted on the Service Alberta Surplus Sales website.
