Residents along Lac Ste. Anne have expressed concern about damage that ice on the lake has been causing, and the potential for more.

Steve Parker, who owns a place in the area, said he saw the ice creep up to the shore quickly on Friday.

“I have seen it crawl three four inches in a minute. If it starts to do that it has nowhere to go, it is going to just keep pushing up and up until it gets straight up into the porches of the houses.”

The ice managed to flip a boat ramp and push a dock straight up in the air.

Parker compared the ice to a bulldozer.

“It is not going to stop until it melts off.”

Last spring the ice buildup caused damage to a garage and broke windows on a cottage.

Residents will be hoping that does not happen this year, as they wait for warmer weather.

Lac Ste. Anne is located in Central Alberta, about 75 kilometres west of Edmonton.
