Police said the Homicide Unit was investigating, after a man found injured early Wednesday morning near a west Edmonton store succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

At about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Edmonton Police Service West Division were called to help paramedics near a convenience store in the area of 154 Street and Stony Plain Road.

When officers arrived, they found a male, believed to be about 35-years-old, suffering from serious injuries.

He was treated on the scene, and then taken to hospital. He succumbed to his injuries Wednesday afternoon.

After reviewing the surveillance footage, investigators said it is believed the man walked up to the store but it is unknown where he came from. A weapon that may have been used to injure the man has been found.

Police are interviewing witnesses and they are asking for anyone with information to contact them at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.

His death is being treated as suspicious. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday morning.
