A week after an overnight fire caused extensive damage to a west Edmonton school, officials said Elementary school students will be allowed back in the school.
On November 14, nearly 300 students and staff had to be displaced after a fire broke out in one of the classrooms of Meadowlark Christian School at 9825 158 Street – causing about $100,000 in damages.
Now, Edmonton Public Schools said elementary students will be returning to class at the school for the first time since the fire – in the last week the students have been taking class at Youngstown School.
Edmonton Public said for students taking yellow buses, the schedules will remain the same.
While the younger students will be heading back, Junior High students will have to wait until Monday.
Officials said the air quality in the school has been declared safe, but the odour of smoke in that wing of the school has lingered.
Junior High students will remain at Westlawn School for the rest of the week.
