Edmonton police said Wednesday that more than a dozen new charges had been laid against a man, weeks after he was charged in connection to at least three sexual assaults.

Police first started investigating the alleged sexual assaults after an incident was reported on April 1, 2016.

Then, on August 10, 2016, Matthew McKnight was charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, two counts of sexual assault and a charge of unlawful confinement.

Since those charges were laid, police said more complainants have come forward – resulting in 18 more charges laid against him.

The accused is now also facing twelve counts of sexual assault, two counts of assault and four counts of unlawful confinement. The charges involve 14 complainants, and all of the charges are from separate incidents which allegedly took place between December 2013 and July 2016.

McKnight is expected to appear in court November 7.

The Sexual Assault Section continues to investigate, and asked anyone with information on McKnight, and anyone who believes they have been sexually assaulted by the accused to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.
