Emergency crews are working to reach about 60 people stranded after a bridge collapse near Fort McMurray.

Officials said the individuals were stranded after part of the Firebag River Bridge collapsed around 5 p.m. Saturday.

The site is 56 kilometers northeast of Fort MacKay and 100 kilometers northeast of Fort McMurray.

Those stranded were believed to be in the area for recreational purposes.

EMERGENCY RECEPTION CENTRE CLOSED

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has closed the emergency reception centre at Frank Lacroix Arena.

Residents who still need support have been directed to call the citizen inquiry line at 780-762-4345.

There have been 489 evacuees registered at the centre since the flooding started last week.
