A number of operating rooms at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton were temporarily shut down Thursday, due to overnight flooding in the building.
Officials said water leaking from a sixth floor ceiling caused damage throughout lower floors, all the way to the basement.
The water line was shot off quickly, but damage forced the temporary closure of four operating rooms. As a result, two dozen patients who had procedures scheduled for Thursday had to be rebooked.
“Our goal is to try to accommodate their surgery on a short time frame, get that rescheduled as soon as possible,” Dr. Eric Estey with the Royal Alex said.
“The University Hospital and other hospitals came to our support as usual, as we all would.”
It’s expected the operating rooms will be back in service Friday.
