There is a glimmer of hope for parents in west Edmonton who want to save the junior high program at an overcrowded school.

When the provincial election was called, last week, the future of Sister Annata Brockman Catholic Elementary/Junior High School was still up in the air.

The future could become a lot clearer today, after the Edmonton Catholic School Board (ECSB) meets to discuss the possible closure of the school's junior high program.

Sister Annata Brockman School was built two years ago under the P-3, or public private partnership, model. It already has modular units attached to it and some parents are now calling for portables to be added. They say that move would allow the school to continue serving students from kindergarten to grade nine, but provincial officials have already said that may not be possible.

The ECSB voted last month to move the students to another school, H. E. Beriault, but they still needed final approval from then Education Minister Thomas Lukaszuk. Nothing had been finalized before the House was dissolved and the election called leading some to wonder whether this overcrowded school, and others like it, would become an election issue.

The parents of children who attend Sister Annata Brockman will be eagerly awaiting an update from the board meeting, Monday morning.
