Families gathered in the school gym at Parkdale School Wednesday night hoping to convince the Public School Board to keep their school open.
The future of a handful of public schools is being reviewed during a number of public meetings this month.
The Public School Board has been hearing input from parents, residents and community groups about the future of the facilities, which include Eastwood School, McCauley School, Parkdale School, Spruce Avenue School, Capilano School, and Fulton Place School.
On Feb. 5th, school board trustees received recommendations to close the schools citing low enrolment numbers as the cause.
At Parkdale, there are 187 students, which the board says make it a candidate for the list. There are more than 100 other children in the Parkdale zone, but they attend other schools because of open borders.
The Kester family says they specifically moved back to the area because of Parkdale School.
"I think it's the Parkdale tradition, the teachers have been here for a long time -- they know the neighbourhoods, they know the communities, they know the businesses, they know the kids and families," said parent Tricia Kester.
On Thursday evening, a meeting will be held at Spruce Avenue School.
Following the public meetings, trustees will vote on the issue in mid-April.
