Edmonton police said a suspicious death investigation is underway, after a body was found in a downtown apartment.
Officers were called to investigate a report of a body found in the area of 106 Avenue and 104 Street at about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Inside a third-floor apartment suite, officers found a deceased female.
Police said the woman’s body was first discovered by her coworkers after she didn’t show up for work.
The EPS Homicide Section is investigating, and said an autopsy has not been scheduled.
A neighbour told CTV News he heard a commotion Monday night, but thought nothing of it.
“[It’s] pretty standard here,” Piers Champagne said. “Not cops showing up, but yeah, yelling, banging and fights.”
Investigators said recent violence in the area isn’t random, and not connected. However, it’s too early to confirm that in this case.
“It’s not the best area of town let’s face it,” Sgt. Bill Clark said. “There are a lot of undesirables, there are a lot of drug dealers, lots of people like that hang around this area.”
