Edmonton police said Friday that Homicide Unit detectives were investigating a suspicious death, after a woman who appeared to have been stabbed succumbed to her injuries overnight.
Police said officers with Northwest Division were called to the area of 128 Avenue and 124 Street, after receiving a call from a nearby home.
When police arrived, they found a 21-year-old woman in medical distress; she appeared to have been stabbed.
She was treated by paramedics, who took her to hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries early Friday morning.
Later Friday, friends and family identified the victim as Sara Crane, and described the young woman as outgoing and kind.
“She was very outgoing, she touched so many hearts,” Crane’s cousin, who wished to only be identified by his first name, Tyrone, said.
“[Sara] was very bright, loved making new friends, loved meeting new people, she was very joyful.”
Police said an autopsy was scheduled for Friday.
The Homicide Unit is investigating, and police said a female suspect was in custody.
The investigation continues.
