Devon RCMP confirmed that a body pulled from the North Saskatchewan River by emergency crews in Edmonton Wednesday morning belonged to the swimmer who disappeared Sunday evening.
Before 7 a.m. Wednesday, Edmonton Police were called to the North Saskatchewan River at the Quesnell Bridge, on reports that a body had been found in the water.
Edmonton Fire Rescue was called in to pull the body from the water.
Later Wednesday, Devon RCMP said Edmonton Police had consulted with the Medical Examiner and RCMP, and determined the body was that of the 22-year-old man last seen swimming in the river near the Devon Bridge.
RCMP were first called to that area of the river at about 5 p.m. Sunday, after two men tried to swim across the river – the 22-year-old was swept away by the current.
