Red Deer RCMP believe that the death of a 46-year-old man found in downtown Red Deer on Christmas day was a result of foul play.

Police were called to the area of Ross Street and Gaetz Avenue around 5:20 a.m. on December 25 after a witness said there was an unconscious person in a downtown business vestibule.

EMS arrived and pronounced the man dead on scene.

Police have identified the man as Thomas Patrick Braconnier from the Red Deer area.

An autopsy is scheduled for December 28 in Calgary.

RCMP do not believe the public is at risk.

Investigators have also determined that this death is not related to the RCMP shooting that happened in a field north of Red Deer later, that same day.
