2nd-degree murder charge laid in fatal Red Deer stabbing

A Red Deer man was fatally stabbed in the central Alberta city Saturday evening.

Police are calling the case a homicide.

They say the stabbing was reported just before 10:30 p.m.

The victim, identified on Monday as 43-year-old Anthony Spiller, was found at the corner of 49 Avenue and 53 Street. He was given medical treatment but later died, according to RCMP.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old Red Deer resident, who was found in the area, and charged him with second-degree murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on Jan. 2.
