One Edmonton school has made it to the top of the Fraser Institute high school rankings.

Old Scona has scored a 10.0 in the annual rankings, followed by Rundle College and Webber from Calgary.

Ste Marquerite d’Youville in St. Albert is ranked number four followed by Calgary's West Island College and Sir Winston Churchill.

Okotok’s Strathcona-Tweedsmuir takes seventh place with Springbank, Western Canada and Westmount schools from Calgary making up the final 10.

Edmonton Catholic School Board spokesperson, Lori Nagy, said that while the rankings are helpful they are limited in their scope.

“It really does not show the growth of a student over the entire year. It’s just a snapshot in time.”

Nagy said the school board encourages parents to use the rankings as just one tool when investigating their child’s education.

“In addition we encourage that parents call the principal, go for a school tour because often it really is the fit of the school for the child.”

Schools on the bottom of the list with a ranking of 2.0 or lower include High Level, International School of Excellence in Calgary, Eastglen and Argyll Home School Centre from Edmonton.

Andrew, Worsley Central, Hines Creek Composite and Bashaw schools take sixth, fifth, fourth and third place, respectively.

Edmonton’s Braemar is second lowest in the rankings with Mistassiny in Wabasca at the bottom of the list.

The Institute rates 279 public, private, separate and charter schools across the province.
