Police have charged a teenage boy, after a woman was allegedly attacked late Tuesday night, and found hours later suffering from severe injuries.

Investigators said on Tuesday, January 10 at about 9:45 p.m., a 62-year-old woman was walking near 93 Street and 103 Avenue, when a male she didn't know allegedly assaulted her.

Occupants of a home in that area found the woman more than two hours later, and called police.

The victim was found unconscious, hypothermic and bleeding heavily.

Emergency Medical Services responded, and when the woman was stabilized, she was taken to hospital – at last word she was being treated in the intensive care unit of a local hospital, under constant supervision.

Detectives working on the file have yet to interview the woman – that's left many questions unanswered.

"We have yet to make a determination as to whether this was a sexually motivated crime and a robbery ensued afterwards, or whether this was a robbery that ended in a violent sexual assault," Edmonton Police Service Staff Sgt. Deb Jolly said.

However, that question has not kept police from making an arrest. On Wednesday afternoon, police arrested a 17-year-old male; he's since been charged with aggravated sexual assault and robbery.

"To date, we haven't found a link between the complainant and the offender," Staff Sgt. Jolly said.

His first appearance in youth court has been scheduled for Friday morning.
