RCMP in northern Alberta are investigating, after a school bus with nearly a dozen children on board, and a semi-truck, were involved in a collision Tuesday afternoon.
Police said officers from the Beaverlodge RCMP detachment, along with emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Township Road 722 and Highway 723 at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
According to police, all but one of the eleven children on the bus suffered a variety of injuries and were sent to hospital in Beaverlodge and Grande Prairie – a number of those students were treated and released, while a few were kept in hospital for treatment and observation, the school district said.
Officials with the Peace Wapiti School Division said two of the injured children were transferred to hospital in Edmonton – there was no word on their status Wednesday morning.
The bus driver was not injured in the crash.
Investigators said it’s believed the bus was headed eastbound on the township road when it was hit by a north bound semi-truck on the highway.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
