Officials with the City of Edmonton said a popular south side facility had to be shut down Monday, and was expected to remain closed through Tuesday, after a water line break.

The city said the Terwillegar Community Rec Centre was closed Monday at about 5 a.m., after a water line in the centre’s north parking lot broke.

The parking lot flooded, and about a foot of water seeped into the basement. The water damaged computers inside.

Crews worked through Monday to fix the water line, and water services to the building had been turned off.

City of Edmonton officials announced Monday the closure would continue into Tuesday, and it wasn’t clear when the facility would re-open to the public.

Staff are also working out options to accommodate day camps and swimming lessons that were set to begin Tuesday morning – officials said parents will be notified once plans are in place.
