Edmonton police said three people had been arrested and charged in connection to a counterfeit cash investigation.

Police said officers in West Division received a complaint over counterfeit cash on Saturday, October 15. Over the course of the investigation, police found a number of $100 bills with the same serial number.

Then, on Saturday, November 19, officers carried out a search warrant in the area of Winterburn Road and West View Boulevard, where officers found a number of identity documents, debit and a credit card reader, ID maker and counterfeit cash.

Two people were arrested at that time.

Another search warrant was carried out in the area of 154 Street and 84 Avenue, and a third suspect was arrested. At that location, police also seized scanners, printers, counterfeit bills and other counterfeiting supplies.

Police are also warning Edmontonians that there could be thousands of dollars in fake $20 and $100 bills in circulation around the city.

EPS are asking Edmontonians to check their cash for some of the following indicators:

  • The clear plastic panel not “looking right”
  • Bills printed on regular paper, not polymer
  • $20 bills with serial numbers starting in FIN and ending with 486
  • $100 bills with serial numbers starting with EKC and ending with 100

Now, police have charged three suspects with a total of 22 charges:
