Three people, including a newly-wed couple, have died following a two-vehicle collision in central Alberta.
Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to the incident on Highway 11 and Range Road 42, near Hespero Cemetery on December 13 just before 3 p.m.
Officials said a westbound Ford Mustang car with three men and one woman entered the ditch, and then went backwards, hitting an eastbound five-ton moving truck with two men inside.
Two of the men in the Ford and the woman were declared dead at the scene. The male driver was airlifted to the University of Alberta Hospital in critical condition.
The two men in the truck were not injured.
Police confirmed the three deceased were foreign workers from the Philippines.
According to a spokesperson for the Edmonton Filipino community the loss comes as a blow.
“They are so shocked that it is happening all the time. This is the third one now within two years,” Lyla Gray told CTV News.
“They worked at Dairy Queen and they went to Red Deer to have language training and then after that they were on their way back home to Rocky Mountain House when it happened,” she explained, adding that the woman and one of the men were newly-weds.
“This couple just got married two months ago.”
Gray said they were now focusing on collecting donations for the victims’ families, who have now lost financial support with the deaths.
