Police are investigating after a single vehicle collision saw a vehicle crash into the sign that greets drivers entering the St. Albert area.
At about 7:15 a.m. Thursday, St. Albert RCMP and emergency crews were called to a single vehicle crash on Highway 2, just outside St. Albert.
The 34-year-old female driver, and only person in the car at the time, was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to an area hospital. At last word, the driver was in serious but stable condition.
RCMP said it’s believed the vehicle was headed southbound when it veered onto the west shoulder of the highway, entered the ditch and hit the ‘Welcome to St. Albert’ sign. No other vehicles were involved.
Traffic had to be diverted on the highway to allow STARS to land – it has since been reopened to drivers.
The collision remains under investigation, RCMP said all possible contributing factors are being considered.
