The Alberta Teachers' Association is warning the government not to impose a contract on the province's 42,000 public school teachers.
Education Minister Jeff Johnson has been talking about the possibility of a legislated settlement during meetings with individual school boards.
Association president Carol Henderson calls his remarks extremely puzzling and says an imposed contract would be an unwarranted attack on teachers.
She says such a move in Ontario has been a disaster that has led to disruptions and the loss of extracurricular activities in schools.
Alberta teachers walked away from talks for a provincewide deal in December after the government rejected an offer that included no wage increase in the first two years.
Alberta Education says some school boards, which are now negotiating separately, want the government to impose a contract because of tight budgets.
