Former Edmonton city councillor Amarjeet Sohi was sworn-in Wednesday as Minister of Infrastructure and Communities in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet.
Sohi will also serve on the Cabinet Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Energy.
First elected to city council in 2007, Sohi was responsible for spearheading many notable civic and community initiatives.
Sohi's City Council colleagues took to Twitter to offer their friend and former colleague congratulations on the appointment:

Edmontonians may remember Sohi worked for Edmonton Transit, including working as a bus driver, prior to his time in civic politics.
Alberta is represented in Ottawa by two MPs in cabinet; Kent Hehr, former MLA for Calgary-Buffalo was sworn-in as Minister for Veteran's Affairs and Associate Minister for National Defence.
Parliament is set to resume December 3, with the Speech from the Throne the next day.
