Edmonton’s first baby of the New Year was a girl born at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
According to Alberta Health Services, Echo Adams arrived at 12:02 a.m. to proud parents Jared Adams and Kayla McEvoy.
The couple said they selected the name from a character in the show Doll House.
“I was watching it one day and suggested it. He loved it as well so we were pretty much set and that was before we even attempted to conceive her,” McEvoy explained.
Echo was also welcomed by older brother, Daniel.
She weighed six pounds and 15 ounces and was delivered via c-section although McEvoy said she was trying a VBAC.
“They brought me in, put me to sleep and next thing I know I wake up and I’ve had a baby at 12:02,” she laughed.
The couple, who were married in Iceland in February, said they were delighted to start the year off with a new baby.
“It is a great way to start the year off. I couldn’t think of a more positive way to begin the new year,” Adams said.
“We had a great last year so this is just another sign that we are going to have another great year,” McEvoy added.
