Officials with the Edmonton Arena District announced plans for a high-end hotel and condominium development set to rise into the city’s skyline near the new Rogers Place.
On Monday, officials announced that Delta Hotels and Resorts was the hotel partner for the Edmonton Arena District, taking up part of the tower, set to go in on the south side of 104 Avenue north of the Stantec Tower.
The tower is expected to be taller than 50 storeys, with 26 storeys dedicated to the four-star hotel and its 362 guest rooms and suites, with private condominiums in the floors above.
Delta also said the hotel would feature a pool and fitness facilities, outdoor terrace, ballroom, meeting and conference space, and access to an outdoor area overlooking the public plaza.
The tower is just the latest project announced as part of the multi-billion dollar arena district.
“This is one of North America’s greatest buildings and I think it has attracted other opportunities for development,” Oilers owner Daryl Katz said.
Construction of the hotel’s parkade is expected to begin this fall, with construction on the main tower to start the following fall – the hotel is expected to open in 2018.
Plans for new development on Jasper Ave.
Meanwhile, WAM Developments is also working on a tower to go on Jasper Avenue, and 120 Street.
Few details on the project were available Monday, but the WAM Developments website says the project will feature retail, commercial office space and about 300 residential suites.
The façade of the building is planned to incorporate Braille letters, to represent the building’s main office tenant, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). The CNIB currently occupies that space.
So far, the project’s timing is 2016.
