Minutes after Edmontonians rang in 2016, an Edmonton couple marked a major milestone of their own – the birth of their first child, who is also the city’s first of the New Year.
Officials with Covenant Health said the little girl was born at 12:05 a.m. Friday at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital.
Her parents are Amanveer and Gurpawandeep Brar, from Edmonton – and this is their first child.
The still-unnamed baby weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces.
Nearly an hour and a half later, at 1:23 a.m., Edmonton’s second baby of the year was born at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Edmonton's baby wasn't the province's first Friday morning: little Anna was born to mom Lidia at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary - she was born just 18 seconds after midnight.
