RCMP organized a safety blitz along Highway 16, just east of Edmonton, for drivers returning home on Monday following the long weekend.

Police said the event resulted in several tickets being handed out – infractions ranging from speeding to unlicensed drivers.

“You name it, we’re looking for it,” Strathcona RCMP Cpl. Chris Little said.

According to police, this long weekend was a lot quieter than usual.

“I think that has to do more with the weather conditions,” he explained.

RCMP, along with peace officers and commercial vehicle inspectors joined forces for the blitz.
